United Online Web Services, Inc. has developed a proprietary hardware and software system that is designed to provide an efficient, responsive user experience. Our architecture is scalable, which enables us to expand our network as our user base and visitor traffic grow.

Our hardware system consists of commercially available components from established manufacturers such as Sun, Oracle, Cisco, Intel and include web servers and additional servers with various uses including mail, statistics, etc. Each web server is capable of serving approximately 30,000 web sites. User profile information is stored in an Oracle database. Site connectivity to the Internet is provided by multiple tier one vendors including Uunet, Sprint, and Qwest.

In addition to being scalable, the web-serving architecture is also entirely redundant. We continuously investigate alternative network architectures and connectivity and are co-locating our network at Internet service centers such as Exodus, Frontier, and AboveNet. We strive to rapidly develop and deploy high-quality tools and features into our system without interruption or degradation in service.
